BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT THE WHEN THUNDER ROLLED PROJECT

NO THREAT OF WAR…

At just 23 years-old, Ed Rasimus finished in the top 10 out of 350 graduates at pilot training school allowing him first choice of aircraft assignments. At a time when there was a deceptive no threat of war, Ed chose only one of nine slots available for the F-105D Thunderchief, a decision that would forever define his destiny. For in May 1966, he was reassigned to the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron at Korat Royal Thai Air Base to fly the F-105D in the Air War against North Vietnam. Ed flew in combat from May to November of 1966 during Operation Rolling Thunder, at a time when for every five pilots that started the Tour, three would not complete it…

Ed Rasimus survived.  Ed was among the few courageous, skilled and lucky souls that went on to complete One Hundred missions during his tour and live to tell about it. Fortunately, those experiences and memories have been chronicled in his riveting memoir, “When Thunder Rolled”, a classic “must read” for every enthusiast.

On behalf of the entire When Thunder Rolled (WTR) Production Team

We are pleased to introduce our commercial add-on project currently in-development.  The project leverages Thirdwire’s Vietnam-based combat flight simulator engine. We aspire to lift the words from “When Thunder Rolled” off their pages and transform them into a unique player experience that allows you to re-live the fear, excitement and experience of Ed’s most notable missions.

This add-on has a unique and niche focus; it won’t offer an ability to jump into dozens of combat aircraft whenever you want so you can go play mission “hero”. Instead, it will offer a unique perspective to get behind the eyes and into the thoughts of a fighter pilot as Ed (in his own words) makes the life changing “…transition from fear to effectiveness.” In order to succeed, you need to carry out your orders in your assigned aircraft, and you have to do it the way the real pilots did, overcoming your fear and surviving one mission at a time…

The When Thunder Rolled Production Team is honored to be personally trusted and supported by a decorated Vietnam fighter pilot veteran to take on this opportunity, and have a passion to recreate Ed's experiences to the best of our ability. We sincerely hope our efforts will live up to your expectations, and look forward to continuing to share development updates with you in the near future.
